M I S C O N C E P T I O N S

On my last blog I defined some terms on my own but after our
Media and Information Literacy class last November 7,
figured that my definitions are a little far from the real
ones.

MISCONCEPTIONS

Technology Literacy

I thought it is just knowing how to do and what you can do
with it, but,I learned that it is also the ability to work
independently or with others by an individual, responsibly,
appropriately and effectively of technological tools
to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create
and communicate information.

Media Literacy

All I knew about media literacy is that it is about learning
how and what can you do with the multiple media given
to us, then, I learned that it aims to empower citizens
by providing them with competencies necessary to engage
with traditional media and new technologies.

Information Literacy

I thought it is being informed on how to use information that
you have gathered. Information literacy is ability to
recognize when information is needed, and to locate, evaluate,
and effectively communicate information in its various formats.

Media and Information Literacy

At first I thought that is knowing how to use media that
you have and information that you have obtained. But really,
Media and information literacy is the essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively, as well as develop critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and become active citizens.
