The Evolution of Traditional to New Media
Evolution of Media
Pre- Industrial
Pre- Industrial or the Stone Age, happened before 1700s. People discovered fire and
developed paper from plants and forged weapons and tools with stone,
bronze copper and iron.
People used cave paintings (35,000 BC), clay tablets in Mesopotamia (2,400 BC)
and Papyrus (2,500 BC) to store information. They used Acta Diurna in Rome (130 BC),
Dibao in China (2nd Century), Codex in Mayan Region (5th Century) and
Printing Press using wood (220 AD) to broadcast information.

Industrial
This age happened back in the 1700s to 1930s. People used the power of steam,
developed machine tools established iron production, and manufacturing
of various products.
They used Printing press for mass production (19th century), telegram (1791-1830) and type writer (1800) to share information. Punched cards (CHM Revolution), Motion Picture
Photography/Projection (1913), Motion Picture with sound (1926), are used to keep data.

Electronic
Started in 1930s to 1980s, the invention of the transistor ushered in the electronic
age, they harnessed the power of transistor that lead to the transistor radio,
electronic circuits, and because of this long distance communication became more efficient.
Transition radio, television (1941), large electronic computers EDSAC (1949) and
UNIVAC (1951), main frame computers IBM 704 (1960), personal computers-
Hewlett-Packard 91004 (1968), Apple 1(1976) and OHP, LCD projector were
invented to spread and keep information.

Information
Information age took place in the 1900s to 2000s. In this age the internet paved way for
faster communication and the creation of the social network. People advanced the use of micro electronics with the invention of personal computers, mobile devices, and wearable
technology, voice image, sound and data.
The longer we have technology the more we invent. Mosaic (1993), Portable computers/
laptop (1980), tablets (1993), Internat explorer (1995), Google (1996),
Yahoo messenger (1998), Blogspot (1999), Live journal (1999),
Wordpress (2008), Friendster (2002), multiply (2003), Facebook (2004),
YouTube (2005), Twitter (2006), Tumblr (2007), Skype (2003),
Google Hangouts (2013), Smart phones, wearable technology, virtual reality,
Google cloud platform.
